RECON Trolling Motor Software Update (1.1.09.02)

A new software update (1.1.09.02) for RECON trolling motors is now available. Using outdated software may affect steering responsiveness, control consistency, and communication between system components. Navico Group strongly recommends updating immediately to ensure optimal and safe performance. The update can be downloaded from the Lowrance and Simrad® mobile Apps or from the software downloads section of the Lowrance and Simrad websites.

Software version 1.1.09.02 includes remote joystick improvements, these improvements are implemented when the FreeSteer® remote reflects version 1.1.02.00. Failure to update may result in reduced system responsiveness or inconsistent steering behavior, which could affect safe vessel operation.

Recommended Action

Trolling motors operating on software versions prior to 1.1.09.02 should update to the latest RECON software version 1.1.09.02 via the Lowrance or Simrad® mobile App or by downloading the software onto a microSD card (Max 32GB) from the Lowrance or Simrad websites. Dealers are asked to share this bulletin with their customers to ensure optimal performance.

Update Instructions

There are two approved methods for updating the software. Users should follow only one of the paths listed below:

1. MicroSD/NMEA 2000® Update Path – This preferred method uses a compatible Lowrance® or Simrad® display with an inserted microSD card containing the software update file; or
2. Mobile App Update Path – This method uses the Lowrance® or Simrad® mobile App to download and install the update directly to the RECON™ trolling motor system.

Before you begin the update process, ensure the trolling motor batteries are charged, and the remote-control battery level displays at least two bars.

Pre-Update Instructions

Download RECON® 1.1.09.02 update to a microSD card (≤32GB)

IMPORTANT

• Power on trolling motor and FreeSteer® remote
• Ensure trolling motor is stowed
• Power off wireless foot pedal (if present)
• Do not attempt to operate the vessel while the update is in progress. Loss of steering or propulsion control may occur temporarily during the update process.

Update via NMEA 2000® & Compatible Display/MFD:

1. Insert the microSD card into the card slot on the display.
2. Navigate: Pages > Storage > SD Card > Update File > Upgrade
3. Select RECON™ trolling motor > Start upgrade
4. Wait for MFD to show "Update Complete"
5. Follow FreeSteer® remote prompts (may take up to 25 min)
   • Trolling motor will begin to push the 1.1.02.00 to your FreeSteer® remote.
6. Power off trolling motor and remote

Verify the FreeSteer® remote software version

1. Power on the FreeSteer® remote
2. Press the menu key
3. Navigate to settings > remote > about

Update via Lowrance®/ Simrad® App:

Before you begin the update process, check for strong Wi-Fi or cellular signal, ensure the trolling motor batteries are charged, and the remote-control battery level displays at least two bars.

Note: If you are updating a Simrad® NSX or NSS network, you must use the Simrad® App

1. Power on trolling motor and FreeSteer® remote
2. Ensure trolling motor is stowed
3. Download and open Lowrance app
4. Pair device with RECON Trolling Motor
5. Go to Manage My Devices
6. Select RECON > Update Firmware
7. Follow onscreen instructions
